Bully President.

http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/romney-obama-election-2012/2012/04/27/id/437368?s=al&promo_code=EC54-1

I agree with this article. Basically this article says that President Obama is abusing the office of President. I say he does not respect the office of President. I feel I have more respect for the office than he does. People who speak out against Obama often are doing so because they have respect for the office of President of the United States, not because they lack that respect. I could go on but this is not the place to do so.

Never Give Up.

I love this quote. This girl, Bry, is so inspirational. She started out as a normal, down to earth girl and through a lot of hard work and goals has achieved in an amazing way. From what she says was a skinny young girl she set out to improve her body. Some of the goals she set were to eat healthy, work out, model, keep her values and apparently inspire others. She has done all of the above. I love it when she uses her talents to improve herself and others. Through maintaining her standards she has proven an inspiration and leader to many others. Good going Bry.

I do have some personal goals or things that I think about every day. These goals are rather odd and seem somewhat impossible, somewhat selfish and perhaps not right. This quote has given me inspiration and hope that I can and will achieve what I think about every day and enlarge it to include all that I think about rather than just one or two items. To talk about it is one thing. To see someone who has done what they say is the best.

White Horse Prophecy Fulfillment?

Basically the White Horse Prophecy is that in the latter days the constitution of the United States will hang by a thread and the LDS Church or elders or members will save the constitution. This prophecy has been attributed to Joseph Smith. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially denies that this is a revelation of Joseph Smith.  Nevertheless, there are still believers.

From this quote of Ann Romney below it makes me wonder. The quote is very intriguing: "

I only want to know one thing, Mitt, if you get the nomination which isn't easy," Romney recounted telling her husband. "If you beat Barack Obama, can you fix it? I need to know if it's too late. Has America gone over the proverbial cliff? … I need to know if it's worth to go through all of that and you are going to tell me then it's too late, and he said, 'No it's getting late, but it's not too late.'"

Another Facet

There is another facet to my recent trip to Woodside on March 31 and April 1, 2012 that I would like to share.  Some time ago I put a Google Earth image of Woodside on a treasure forum to have it dowsed.  Three people dowsed it and all came up with some kind of treasure, coins or cache on the image.  When I was down there I took some pictures of one of the areas that had a couple of hits.  Later I looked at the pictures and selected one that seemed to be the best candidate to fit the area dowsed with hits on the image by two of the dowsers.  This time all three dowsers came up with hits within that one picture.  They were all kind of close as well.  I don't know if it means anything but they all seemed to be in the center of the picture.  That must mean that I chose the right picture to have dowsed.  It also helps to walk it in or zero in on the target.  Pinpointing it for further field work.

Military. Just a Suggestion.

My dad, JosephIII, never did serve in the military. He did have at least one brother that did and five of his six sons served in the US Army. One, Marvin, made it a career.

Pioneer Grandfathers

My grandfathers were very different in their background.  Both left a somewhat significant impact in their lives.  Nicholas by being Carbon County Treasurer and active in the LDS Church.  Dode and Joe by being a certain kind of pioneer and the way they lived off the land.   Nicholas was a pioneer in his own right as far as the LDS Church goes.  He has many descendants serving in the LDS Church.  The Curtis family has a rich legacy in the LDS Church but it was basically discarded.  The LDS Church means a lot to me and I am glad for the rich heritage and pioneers on both sides of my family.  Surnames from the paternal side of my family like Dibble, Allred, Whitlock, Buchanan, Curtis and Daley that figured in the early history of the LDS Church.  Surnames from the maternal side of my family like Livsey, Pettersson and Pilkington.  I have to tell the Pilkington story.  I will, later.

Grandfather Comparison.

I did a grandfather comparison once before in one of my very early posts but I would like to do another short comparison or brief description of them.

My grandfather Nicholas Peter Pettersson was an immigrant having been born in England of Swedish origin.  He worked for the railroads and mines before becoming Carbon County Treasurer.  He was also a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He was very valiant and ambitious in his membership in the LDS Church.  He was still leading the choir in priesthood meeting and doing treasurer work for the seminaries at 90 years of age.  He was well known, well liked and well respected and had a cheerful nature and disposition.

My grandfather Joseph Augustus Curtis was born in Castle Dale and was a lifelong resident of Utah.  In fact I'm not sure he went far from the Price River Drainage area at all and spent most or all of his life there.  His nickname was "Dode".  His father had the same name and generally went by Joe as far as my research determines.  In fact it is Joe who this comparison may involve more than Dode.  Dode has reportedly said that Joe's Holes was named after him.  I'm inclined to disagree with that as I believe he was a newborn when Joe's Holes was named.  It could have his his father Joe however.  Joe reportedly ran sheep quite a bit.  I don't know if they were his sheep or someone else's but he supposedly had large herds of sheep.  He would also be more contemporary with when Joe's Holes was named.  He also went by Joe rather that Dode.  They aren't called Dode's Holes.  Joe was also one of the first settlers of Woodside.  As I have mentioned earlier I am certain that the Curtis Formation which is part of the San Rafael Group of geologic formations was named for him.  The Curtis Formation is just above the Entrada Formation and is very evident at Goblin Valley.  The Entrada Formation, Curtis Formation and Summerville Formation were all named at the same time in 1928 by Gilluly.  There was a guy named Summerville from Moab that is also credited as being one of the first settlers of Woodside and that is exactly why I feel that the Curtis Formation was named after Joe Curtis.  It only makes sense.  I also believe that Joe's Holes was also named for Joe Curtis.  Lew's Holes was names for Louie Pressett and as far as I can tell he was a contemporary of Joe Curtis.  Apparently they laid claim to these watering holes.  My dad used to call Lew's Hole "Louie Pressett waterhole".

I am going to contradict myself here.  Joe's Holes starts near the Cedar Mountain summit area of the Castle Dale Road.  Or on old maps the Green River Cutoff.  But the Green River Cutoff took a different route in some places than the present Castle Dale Road.  Joe's Holes empties eventually into Lost Spring and further down into other washes before eventually emptying into the San Rafael River.  The Curtis Formation also in within the San Rafael River drainage area.  I don't know how much impact this has on my earlier statement that Dode spent most of his time in the Price River drainage area but they are so close as to almost be the same and one has to make some effort to distinguish the difference.

Old Stove Claims.

This is Entrada Point just off the Caslte Dale Road and just north of Rancho Notso-Grande.  Some of dad's claims are in this area.

My recent trip to the Summerville, Neversweat and Lost Spring Wash area was mainly for the purpose of rockhounding or prospecting.  I did pick up a few rocks and was checking out ant hills and dry washes.  I didn't quite make it to two places that I wanted to.  Partly because of the windy weather and partly because of time.  Also partly I'm sure because of the gas expense involved and the remoteness of one of the locations.  I did want to go investigate some of my dad's old claims.  I did get to that location but was not able to do much investigation.  The road had not been graded and was not in good condition either.  That would be another reason.

My dad prospected for quite a few years and had claims with different people.  Some family members including sibling, parents and even spouse.  Two that stand out aren't family.  There was a guy named Brownn from Grand Junction I believe that he staked a lot of uranium claims with in the 1950's along with a substantial amount of the male population of the time.  Another is Adolph Herrera.  In fact their tombstones are near each other in the Price City Cemetery.  They had quite a few claims in the area of Entrada Point, Summerville Point and Curtis Point.  This is also close to the lower end of Joe's Holes in the Big Hole area and near Cement Crossing.

At this time dad had 70 claims.  I have the original map and I have also plotted them on the Dry Mesa quadrangle map.  The names of the claims are the Old Stove, Sand Pass, Red Rim and Sal.  There were 42 Old Stove claims, 12 Sand Pass claims, 6 Red Rim claims and 10 Sal claims.  Recently I had an individual do some map dowsing for me.  In the course of his dowsing he came up with six locations for gold prospects in the area east of Cedar Mountain or on Cedar Mountain.  One of these locations was on one of dad's old claims and that is what I wanted to investigate when I was down there.  There was in fact a company I believe from Grand Junction who leased some of these claims at one time and did some drilling I believe on some of the Old Stove claims but it could have been other claims as they are right next to each other.  Another item to follow up on if possible.  It was while attempting to investigate this dowsing location and claim that I ran across the couple that was stuck off the road in my last post.  I still may get down there to investigate or prospect this claim that also showed up on with a dowser and see if it may be worth putting forth more effort into.

Compact car stuck up to its axles.

On Saturday March 31 I went down to my dad's claims.  I got down there late and it was windy.  I didn't attempt to set up a tent. On the way there I passed a car on the side of the road collecting some dirt.  I guess they/she wanted some that was red.  I turned off to go to the claim and apparently they followed me thinking I would lead them to what they were looking for.  I went down the road and didn't like what I saw.  The road wasn't even good for a four wheel drive, which I was driving.  Being late and windy and no good prospects for a camp I turned around and went back.  On the way back I came upon the care off the road stuck like up to their axles in the dirt.  They had now business getting off the road as they were in a low clearance compact car.  Anyway they were stuck, with their car locked and the engine running.  They asked for my help and of course I helped them.

First they asked for some wire such as a coat hanger.  I did not have a coat hanger but I remembered that I did have a car aerial antenna.  I gave that to them and she asked if she could bend it.  I said of course its just junk and this is more important.  She bent it a couple of times and with a tire iron to pry the window was able to hit the switch to unlock the car.  She was very elated.  She asked if I wanted it back and I said I could keep it for a souvenir.  I then asked her if she wanted it for a souvenir and she did so I gave it to her.  She was happy again.

Next I proceeded to pull them out.  I had a load binder strap that I had just put in the truck the day before.  We hooked up and the truck slid a bit because it was on an angle.  I put it in four wheel drive and it just walked right out.  Needless to say she was ecstatic.  Her boyfriend was a good help as well.  He stopped me for help and hooked up the strap to the car.  She did give me a check but I would have done it for nothing.  I then pointed out Chimney Rock to them which they could not see because it was already late twilight.  That's what they were looking for.  They were going to go to Moab for the paragliding but it was too windy for that.  I don't know how they had heard of Chimney Rock  She was very nice and kept saying thank you so much.  She even said she loved me and right away said to her boyfriend that she loved him too.  It was a good experience for all in a way because it showed the goodness in people and it got them on their way when they could have spend the night when they did not want to.  It could have ended a lot of different ways if I had not turned back.  I hope they had an enjoyable time despite getting stuck.

I will add more later to my trip in my next post.
