Chili Billy

On October 11, 1014 I attended the graveside services for my brother Bill.  In talking to those in attendance I learned a bit about Bill. One fellow from his union, Dan Thompson, that knew him and was a good friend
told me and my family that they used to call him Chili Billy.  I like the Chili Billi spelling.  Bill got into cooking chili went he went out to California and lived with his sister and her husband for a while.  Bill loved to cook as did Karen and Tony who still attend chili cook offs and make chili or salsa.  I believe they have won awards for both.  Bill had a chili cook off at the park in Price, Utah one time.  Tony said it was 1999.  I know it was when Marvin was still alive because he was there.

I just wanted to share this experience.  I was very amused by the term "Chili Billi".  Creative and so much fun. Thanks to Bill's close friend Brian for all he has done for Bill. It was a lot.

  Since the first of the year mining location notices have been dropping into the county recorder's office quite regularly.  Peter Frandsen of Castle Dale and Lars and Hyrum Frandsen of Price have located twenty-five copper claims near Cottonwood Wash.  J. R. Roberts, Walter Ruit and G. B. Milner have filed on four copper claims in the old Summerville District and Ed Stewart, Susan K. Frandsen, Henry Empey and Mary Stewart have located mineral claims not far from the same locality.

  Peter Frandsen of Castle Dale is back home from his mining property nine miles south of Desert Switch.  A shaft has been sunk to the depth of 79 feet and the vein is so wide that it was necessary to drift to catch the footwall.  The vein now shows 36 feet of mineral across the breast.  The company (Gold Reef and Platinum Mining Company) was incorporated last fall under the laws of Utah with a capital stock of $30,000 and Mr. Frandsen is the president of the company.  It is now proposed to put on a steam hoist in the near future and an effort will be made to get some sort of concentrating plant to handle the ore.

Grandfather Comparison.

Apparently Mondays and Tuesdays are not good days for me to post blogs.  I must be too busy on those days.  I had hoped to have already posted this. 

This looks like a brief comparison on the surface but really these were different men.  My desire is not to be judgemental of either man.  They were just different. 

Nicholas was born in England. 
Dode was born in America. 

In a way Nicholas was  a pioneer.
Dode was of Utah pioneer ancestry. 

Nicholas was a convert to the LDS Church. 
Dode was a nonmember despite his pioneer heritage. 
Dode and his father certainly pioneered around Woodside.

Nicholas lived in the city. 
Dode at times lived in the city but was comfortable and at home on the desert. 

Nicholas had a certificate which helped him do clerical work. 
Dode went to school but any specific training is unknown or non-existent. 

Nicholas was comfortable in a suit and tie. 
I believe Dode usually work Levis that were cuffed on the bottom. 

Nicholas apparently traveled a bit of the world. 
I don't know that Dode went far from Emery County. 

Nicholas spent nearly his entire life working.  He worked til 80 years of age. 
Dode worked at times but apparently did a lot of prospecting. 
Looking at the records in Emery County almost provides a diary of Dode. 

Despite all these differences they both worked for the railroad at least briefly.
